Yet another example of why I hate MS Grammar Checker

The original sentence:
That made me laugh out loud.
MS Word’s suggested “grammatical” revision:
That made me laughs out loud.
And again I say JOB SECURITY.

Thinking about starting a website?

My web host, Homestead, is running a referral discount now through October 31. Prices start at $4.99/month. I’ve been with Homestead since 2000 and absolutely love them. If you have any interest in checking out their packages and playing around with their 30-day free trial, please e-mail me and I’ll forward you […]

New article idea: How I Became a Crab Addict

We’re going to eat crabs again tomorrow. My mom’s family might be from the Chesapeake Bay area, but my husbands family KNOWS how to eat CRABS. It’s like all we do these days. Um, okay, sign me up! But seriously, with all this crab eating, there’s got to be some kind […]

Obligatory puppy pictures (I can’t help myself!)

Busy week

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Pickles is as much work as a newborn baby, and even more since newborn babies can’t run around your house and pull things down on themselves or leap off the couch and stun themselves. However, she does sleep occasionally, and that’s allowed me to get a LOT […]

I’m a slacker, I know

Cute as she is, Pickles is a lot of work! This has been a small taste of what it will be like when I have kids. (Note to self: Wait a few more years). I’m hoping to get back to regular entries tomorrow now that she’s acclimated, and I’ll try to shut […]

More on our newest family member

Okay, so this is totally unrelated to writing, but it’s the weekend and it’s cute, so I know you’ll make an exception–and think of it as research for my first Dog Fancy query.
I’ve never liked small dogs. I always thought of them as wannabe cats. Yet I am completely enamored of a three-pound, […]

Love at first sight

Meet the newest member of the King household: Pickles.
Is this the cutest face you’ve ever seen, or what?
After about 30 minutes of the funniest play I’ve ever seen, one tinkle and two poops (all on my hardwood floor), Pickles collapsed and totally zonked out. She snoozed for about five minutes, until I had the […]

Self-Publishing Links from Dick

Dick Margulis made some really awesome comments on my post Self-Publishing, which you should click over to and read. He included some links to related articles on other blogs, and in the interest of making them easily clickable, here they are:
Why Do Critics Ignore Certain Books? at Critical Mass
Dick Margulis sends along… (great for […]

Dear Mom

Dear Mom,
No, I do not wear pajamas all day on a regular basis–once or twice a month, max, unless I’m sick. Yes, I get dressed, and even I shower.
Love,Kristen

Back to School!

No, really! Tonight is the first night of my third semester in the publishing MPS program at George Washington University. This semester I’m taking Marketing Strategies and Production Management. And you thought COPYRIGHT LAW was fun… Actually, Copyright Law was fun. Book Design, on the other hand, sucked. But […]

Why you should always get a second opinion

I’ve seen this around a few times, but today I finally found the URL for the list of the Top 10 Unintentionally Worst Company URLs. I can’t decide which is my favorite.
Can you come up with any others that would be equally or almost as bad? Post them in comments. I’ll be […]
