A Little Knowledge Is a Dangerous Thing

(www.inkthinkerblog.com) — I kinda, sorta, almost temporarily killed Inkthinker. That’s what I get for trying to do my own upgrade, which I had no business even attempting. But the Automatic Upgrade Plug-in seemed so easy! It was LYING. It is NOT easy, and because I tried to make it work, now the only thing functional on Inkthinker is the homepage. So, to that end, I won’t be putting up new posts until it’s fixed, which will hopefully be in the next few days.

I would say you should peruse the archives in the meantime, but since you can’t GET to the archives, that’s no help. So, thanks for hanging in there with me.

And for not laughing at me, even though I deserve it.

    Ha, I saw your title and thought your post was about psychology majors…

    No laughing here. I’m a total idiot when it comes to some of this stuff.

  • I’ve used the automatic upgrade plugin several times with no problems. I have had times when after activating all the plugins, the site wouldn’t load because one or more of the plugins was not compatible with the new version of WordPress (which does freak you out at first!), but the upgrade has always worked. Do you know specifically what went wrong?

    Don’t worry this happens to the best of us. I’ve messed up my site a few times that way and had to do a minor re-set.

    @Archie – Sorry to disappoint! :)

    @Lori – I like that we can embrace our idiocy, don’t you?

    @DR – No clue, but Kim may know. I’ll see if she can break it down into tech-moron terms for the rest of us. But from what I understand, this problem happens regularly, and there’s no clear explanation for it.

    @Kate – Thank you for the reassurance!

    @Allena – Please do! Laughing together is often the best way to get through difficult times. ;)
